Crabbing in Weymouth

We had rain last weekend that lasted for well over 24 hours, I got up early on the Sunday to go and take some pictures of my predicted flooded river....... NO change not even a splash of colour!

A couple of days off fishing with the girls was great, after a long day getting wet in the river, the highlight was tonight, crabbing in Weymouth harbour, Libs and I went for a couple of hours and she caught 11 in a drop net (all returned) what fun!

Mackerel is the top bait.

Fishing Huts

The postman knocked on our door fairly early today, delivering a book, what a book, all about fishing huts, its absolutly fantastic, well done to author Jo Orchard-Lisle.

Rivers and things

After working silly hours during the week, most weekends and what with the all the preparation for two days at the Dorset County Show last week, it was great to have some quality family time at last this weekend. A good two hours of walking, along the lower waters, great fun, some super shots taken by Andrea and still river orientated, fortunately the girls both love it as much as me!

We had heavy cloud bursts on Friday, which consequently spoilt most of the river fishing for this weekend anyway, even tried some tiny streams, but it was just too coloured.

A whistle stop trip to Street, worked very much in my favour on arrival at the Orvis shop, "oops"... Nice Sunday morning idea Andrea !!!!

Great expectations

So much for a week of rest, I have to admit to a little gentle chainsaw work, a spot of mowing, a splash of weed cutting and a lost Bass!

As my Popper worked its way across the surface, through the weed only a few yards from the shore, swimmers, paddlers and scavenging Gulls, a Bass charged and for a few seconds the clutch on my reel screamed as the fish tore line heading for the moored boats, as quick as it happened it all ended, the line fell slack and my little popper floated to the surface..........

I will be back.....

We had a lovely weed cutting job today, a last minuite tidy up on a local estate in time for the village fate on Saturday.

When we left it looked like a picture postcard.

We have a day out on Top Cat on Sunday and by good fortune the forcast is 100% spot on, infact, all most to the day last year we had some fantastic fishing and calm seas so lets keep our fingers crossed, watch this space, will I catch a Bass, and will John G s super Bream rigs work?

16 hours of solid rain

I woke early today, as it was getting light, torrential rain, not unlike the monsoon in south east Asia, the Frome on dusk was running a good 18 inches above yesterday, and very coloured, we had to cancel a weed cutting job for tonight!

We managed a spot of tree clearing before the rain set in..

I spent the whole day in the office and caught up with all the paper work, plans various method statements etc.

They do forcast a little sun for the morning, lets wait and see....

Nipped out to take a few dull low light wet photos and on the way home fetched some wine and cooked Tiger Prawns with lemon grass and fresh coriander as a starter followed by Beef in Oyster sauce, after all one needs to stay sane.

We have at last caught up with all our river beats, a huge thank you to Elliot, Tim and Rob for all your hard work during a very wet week!

We all went to the beach in search of Mackerel, and caught one between ten of us! We had a fab day, and made plans to one day get two between us.

What a day

Spring sunshine, how good does that make you feel?

All our river beats look fantastic, fish rising, lots of fly, and fisher folk out enjoying themselves!

Catching up at last now its dry, lots of mowing (that time of year again), a spot of fishing, and we are off to the Keys in a week!

We are joined by Henry Gilbey for the first five days, for some awesome Tarpon fishing at seven mile bridge, near to Marathon Key, with FISH THE DREAM, if you have not yet experienced the thrill of hooking a TARPON you need to get in touch with me, or Rodney at fish the dream to plan a trip, life is to short not to do it.....So exciting is it, that I have planned a trip for my wife and daughter to tour the keys next spring...

We cut trees in all sorts of places!

One weight or a ten weight its always enough to keep you awake at night...

Ringstead Beach

Spring sunshine, did my rounds on the river early, quite a few Grannom, paper work in the office, then spent some quality family time on our favourite beach, had an ice cream threw a few stones in the sea and made a few wishes...

Having spent a lot of time traveling and fishing around the world you cannot beat whats on your own doorstep, we are very lucky to live in such perfect surroundings .....

Perfect in every way...

Cherrish every moment!

We arrived, high tide, coloured water, perfect for an early Bass, no fishing gear, just looking..... Just my family... Just perfect!

Ringstead

Ringstead bay is one of the finest coastal locations in the world to spend an hour or two lure fishing for Bass.

Now I have had one or two large toothy critters scar a number of plugs over the years, but on this occasion, my daughter on her second cast managed to wreck one of my favourite poppers, admiting casting it straight at the rocks.....

First and last time out of the lure box RIP......
